Youth Group Fundraising to Go to France

Ten2Ten is a youth project in West Dunbartonshire which involves young people organising a French exchange programme. Last year, ten young people from the twinned town of Beauvoisin in the south of France came to spend two weeks with their Scottish counterparts and the event was a great success. Now it’s the West Dunbartonshire young people’s turn to visit their French friends in summer 2013.

Ten2Ten and their French friendsThe group have to raise money themselves before they go. They are doing this by holding numerous fundraising events and submitting funding application forms to funds that support this kind of project. The group are really determined to get to France this year and have been working hard to make their dream come true.

The Ten2Ten group have just held a fundraising event at Clyde Shopping Centre in Clydebank with the Streetlinks climbing wall and another one is coming up in May: a charity night in Clydebank town hall that will aim to raise further contributions for their trip that will help them learn about the diversity of cultures and see their friends again.

Ten2Ten sponsored cycleThe group have also just completed a 24-mile sponsored cycle from Clydebank to Balloch and back on Sunday 7 April. All of them did really well and although some struggled with parts of the cycle, they all helped each other along and all completed the cycle. We don’t know the total amount they have raised for this just yet but it will help them reach their goal.

They also carried out a workshop at the East Dunbartonshire Youth Work Conference detailing their experiences to date, the work involved to become a constituted group and gain their youth achievement awards, and the fundraising (and many other tasks) involved to make a return trip. The group provided a fun, interactive, informative, very visual presentation for the workshop for the conference delegates. It was a great experience for them and they received excellent feedback and very useful hints for their return visit and advice from the experienced delegates in the room.

The group are now focusing on trying to get the money for their trip to France this summer; they are a very determined group and they believe they can raise the money. They need all the help they can get so if any of our readers have are any ideas for fundraising events or sponsorships, it would help the group hugely.
