Plotting in Tobermory – Finding the Right Plot

For the last two years we have been working with Tobermory Endeavour, a community development trust on Mull, develop their proposal for community allotments on the island. This was a priority on the island due to the difficulty in accessing fresh, affordable vegetables.

We supported the group with consultation which confirmed wider community and stakeholder support for allotments and preparation of a landscape plan for an allotment consisting of 20 plots, poly tunnel, orchard, composting loos, cycle bays and car parking. We had to be very careful in the planning, location and design of the allotments given the high quality environment in and around Tobermory and worked closely with the local planning department and other agencies. The preferred site at Aros Park in Tobermory is owned by the Forestry Commission that have agreed to a peppercorn lease of the land to Tobermory Endeavour. Tobermory Endeavour have recently secured planning consent for the allotments and we are now supporting the group to identify and secure funding to take their proposal forward.
