Plans for Dalmuir

Drop Lock on the Canal at DalmuirOur recent achievements have included assisting Dalmuir based Beardmore Trust with a successful application to Awards for All. This was very well received by the trust as it will help them to cover the cost of compiling a community action plan which will be tasked to CLS who in turn hope to work closely with the trust’s new project coordinator when appointed.

The Beardmore Trust was set up with the aim of facilitating projects to improve the provision of facilities and services for the local community and a community action plan will be the basis for developments. In order to inform this plan, we have already carried out extensive consultations across the locality in order to establish the community’s priorities for regeneration. This work included postal surveys to 2436 households, 47 community groups and 60 local businesses. Ninety-nine young people were interviewed on the streets and the Primary 6 and 7’s pupils of three local primary schools completed surveys in class along with 8 teachers who also completed a questionnaire.

We had a good response from householders, young people, the schools and community groups but a lot more work needs to be done to get local businesses to take part in the research. We have collated all the responses and some strong common themes of concern and aspiration are apparent. The next stage is to hold a community drop-in event which will seek further opinion from the community on proposed projects based on the survey feedback.
