New Community Garden and Growing Space in Renfrew

Huge congratulations to Williamsburgh Housing Association (WHA) and their partner community organisation, Renfrew Association of Growers & Gardeners (RAGG), who were recently awarded a grant of £596,459 from the Big Lottery Fund Our Place Programme to create a vibrant community gardening space in Renfrew. RAGG community space

This new community garden and growing space will not only improve the health of the area through increased exercise and healthy eating from fresh produce but  local people will have the opportunity to get involved and feel more connected to their local area. When the space is ready, approximately 30 gardening plots will be available for local community groups or individuals to tend. The garden will be open for anyone to visit and RAGG will also work in partnership with local organisations, schools and care homes to set up tailored sessions for people of all ages to participate in. This initiative will also provide training and support to encourage local people to volunteer and potentially find new routes to employment.

RAGG meetingCommunity Links Scotland began working with WHA and the RAGG group on this project in May last year, helping them to complete their Stage 2 Big Lottery Fund application and build the capacity of the RAGG group which began meeting in November 2011 and has recently become constituted with a view to taking over responsibility for the grant from WHA once the garden has been built.

RAGG are now working with landscape architects to finalise the garden design and hope to have all construction work completed in time to open for this summer.
