Kayaks and Kerrera

The island of Kerrera is only a 10 minute ferry crossing from Oban and yet offers peace and tranquillity that successful social enterprise STRAMASH feels could be of benefit to their clients.

STRAMASH are an Oban based organisation who offer outdoor sports and activities training as a vehicle to employability and personal development targeting in particular, although not entirely, disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals. They have commissioned us to prepare a feasibility study and business plan into the potential for the Kerrera’s tiny former primary school building to be adapted as a mini outdoor activity retreat. Working with a design team, CLS will consult with STRAMASH’s stakeholder groups locally, including statutory referral agencies, youth and care organisations, local housing associations, the schools and family support agencies and will examine the facilities and activities likely to be required of such a development and the ways in which it can also be linked to the base for  kayaking and other water sports which STRAMASH lease from the Council on the mainland shore opposite the island.

Work will include working with the design team to produce layout options which meet planning requirements and identifying potential funders to support implementation of the preferred option.
