the mungo foundationWith our support, Hillhead Housing Association 2000 have recently been awarded £113,026 from the Scottish Government’s People and Communities Fund on behalf of an RSL partnership between themselves and Antonine Houisng Association in East Dunbartonshire, Oaktree, Cloch and Larkfield Housing Associations in Inverclyde  and Arklet Housing Association in East Renfrewshire.

The money will be used to continue to work with the Mungo Foundation to provide a member of staff who supports the housing associations’ most vulnerable clients by providing information, advice and guidance.

Hillhead Tenancy Support_JackieThe staff member from the Mungo Foundation is based in an association office in each local authority area. Referrals to their service come from frontline staff such as housing officers and welfare rights officers, partner organisations or through self referral.  The support staff will work with each client to carry out an assessment and develop a service plan tailored to their individual needs.  Clients will be visited in their own homes on average weekly but more or less frequently as required.  The nature of support provided by includes:

  • Establishing a sense of routine for those with a chaotic lifestyle
  • Teaching budgeting skills to improve management of personal and household finances
  • Obtaining a basic bank account if they don’t have one
  • Improving personal hygiene
  • Increasing knowledge and understanding of how to maintain good health and wellbeing
  • Building self confidence and learning to set goals
  • Developing problem solving skills
  • Developing social skills
  • Understanding appropriate and inappropriate behaviour
  • Identifying personal interests and abilities, getting clients to view themselves as an asset  not a problem
  • Increasing client awareness of a variety of local agencies, organisations and facilities that can offer assistance with training and employment opportunities
  • Hands on facilitated referrals for specialist support where necessary for those with additional support needs to help tackle major barriers in their life that are preventing them from moving forward e.g addictions, mental health services, literacy and numeracy classes and debt advice
  • Highlighting local volunteering opportunities and encouraging clients to play a more positive and active role within their local community
