Bringing Belleisle Conservatory Back to Life

We have been supporting a community group in Ayr with their ambitions to transform a much loved but currently derelict B-listed glasshouse conservatory back to its former glory.Belleisle Conservatory

Belleisle Conservatory Group, who have secured a 25 year lease from the local authority for the conservatory, are aware of the need to safeguard the building’s ongoing viability by considering ways to improve services and functionality of the space to enable its use as a small venue for community and cultural activities.

Consultation event in AllowaySince October 2012, CLS, together with MAST Architects, have been supporting the group carry out an options appraisal for the restoration and prepare a business plan based on sound market research and consultation with community and other partners. The project will link with South Ayrshire Councils ongoing masterplanning programme for regeneration of the wider Belleisle Park. Belleisle Conservatory Group held a stall at a well attended community open event in November which confirmed overwhelming support for restoration of the conservatory as a key feature in the regeneration project.

The next stage after completion of the business plan is for the group to prepare a joint proposal and bid with South Ayrshire Council for Heritage Lottery Funding for regeneration of both the Conservatory and Belleisle Park.
