Methlan Park Landscaping
![]() |
In spring 2010 CLS were commissioned to carry out landscaping services for
Loretto Housing Association in connection with their new build development
at Methlan Park in Dumbarton. The development provided housing for elderly
people and those with special needs, including some people who had lived on
the site previously in outdated accommodation. Qualified landscape staff at
Community Links Scotland consulted with some of the former residents and the final layout took
their opinions into account together with the Planning Department's requirement
to respect the wooded setting and of the development and the formality of the
nearby Victorian villa. The result was a simple, formal layout which included
two intimate courtyard areas bounded by raised planters, a cherry tree lined
central area and some additional big tree planting in wider the grounds. The
choice of planting focussed on strong scents, colour and bold trellis planting
at gable ends.
Our services included supervision of the implementation stage and despite this
stage including a period of drought in April 2011, everyone was pleased with
the results. Following the opening of the development, the client commented
that ‘the planting looked great and really complemented the housing.
Everyone commented on how lovely the landscaping was, so well done!’
CLS can provide qualified support services for a range of community
landscape projects.
